How often do you have to take a mobile home to the TÜV?

In Germany, it is a legal requirement that every vehicle must regularly go to the TÜV (Technischer Überwachungsverein) or another officially recognized testing organization for a general inspection (HU) in order to check and ensure its roadworthiness.
Regulation for motor homes up to 3.5 tons
The following regulation applies to motorhomes with a permissible total weight of up to 3.5 tons:
- Initial inspection: After three years, the motorhome must go to the TÜV or HU for the first time.
- Follow-up inspections: After that, the motorhome must go to the HU every two years.
Regulation for motorhomes over 3.5 tons
For motorhomes with a gross vehicle weight rating of over 3.5 tons, other rules apply and the inspection intervals may vary depending on the vehicle type and use. It is advisable to obtain information on this from the TÜV or another officially recognized inspection organization.
It is important to comply with the MOT deadlines to avoid penalties and to ensure that the motorhome is in a roadworthy condition. It is also advisable to have the motorhome checked and, if necessary, repaired in a workshop before the HU in order to avoid defects and to obtain the best possible rating during the inspection.
